Mannum Dragons (Mannum Dragon Boat Club)

The Rev. John Thompson introduced the idea of Dragon Boat paddling to Mannum in November 2015 and the first meeting was held in January 2016. The club was set up in affiliation with Adelaide Survivors Abreast who offered coaching, admin support and a constitution until September 2020. The club was originally known as Mannum Paddle Steamers Dragon Boat Club.

Now called Mannum Dragon Boat Club (Mannum Dragons for short) the club aims to promote a healthy lifestyle through fun and fitness at a level which suits the individual. We actively encourage those recovering from injury and illness to join us to enhance their recovery.

It is our aim to train on the mighty Murray River three times a week, during the warmer months, including a social paddle on Sunday mornings. We usually have a coffee or drink at Mannum Community Club after paddling and sometimes have a sausage sizzle after our Sunday paddle.

We offer 4 complimentary “Come and Try Sessions” to anyone over 12 years of age, to allow you to assess if Dragon Boating is for you. We encourage anyone interested in Sweeping (steering the boat) or Drumming to have a try. We have life jackets and paddles for you to use and welcome all who are interested.

We compete in race events such as Masters Games and race days with Dragon Boats SA and other clubs, but this is not compulsory. It is your choice to compete or not.

We have a COVID plan and COVID Marshalls present each time we paddle, to ensure everyone is adhering to the government guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety.
